Stila Can Cam Palette

According to Stila website, Stila Can Cam Palette was a Japan only palette. But now it's available on Stila website so everyone outside Japan can have this palette too.

As for the name, Can Cam, I googled and found out that it's actually a name of a fashion magazine in Japan, targeting school age girls and young women. It was first published in November of 1981. And this Stila Can Cam palette is specially made to celebrate the magazine's 25th anniversary.

The palette comes in a simple square box and it opens like a book with magnets on the side to keep the palette shut. It's so sleek, you can just slip it inside your bag or make up pouch without taking too much space.

There are four colors inside. Three eye shadows and one blush, all shimmery. On the back, there's an information on where you should put the colors (yeah, like you need one). For base is a lightest color, more like a champagne color. For crease is the purplish pink with subtle gold shimmer. And the dark brown color with gold shimmer for liner. But of course this is just suggestion and the application is totally up to you. The cheek color looks like a light coral color on the pan, kinda like the much lighter version of NARS Torrid, but it turns light pink on my cheek. The blush is so sheer, almost unnoticeable on my cheeks.

I tried the palette immediately once the palette arrived. Since I wasn't going anywhere, I applied the eye shadow colors without primer. Texture wise, as pressed eye shadows, the pigments are kinda loose. So you might wanna be careful applying it and don't let the pigment fall on your face (It's annoying when that happened). As for the color pay off, well, kinda disappointing. I have dark lids and those colors don't cover that. Although the base color looks pretty as highlight. The crease color and the liner color are just as bad. I have to re-apply all these colors just to make colors show up but it doesn't make any difference. Those colors are just too sheer. I use the liner color for my outer V and as the darkest color in the palette, the pigmentation is the.. poorest (is that a word?). And the texture is kinda muddy too, it's hard to blend. Meh..

I thought, it's probably because of the loose texture. So I try to apply the colors wet on my other eye. The result? Not working either. I mean, yes, the colors show up better when applied wet but the texture makes the colors even harder to blend. Oh gosh...

So for the second time I try these eye shadows, I use primer. And apparently, primer is what the eye shadows need. The colors show up better and blend well.

Anyway, these eye shadows are not my first Stila eye shadow. I have Stila Kitten shadow, and never have I had any problems like this. I thought that goes for every Stila shadows. Apparently not. When most eye shadows need primer to help the colors last, eye shadows in Can Cam palette need primer to make the color show up. It's kinda disappointing, though. But then again, I never apply eye shadows without primer, anyway. So I'm just gonna keep this.

So my conclusion about this palette, had I known this is how the colors would turn up, I'll never even consider buying the palette. But know that I have it, (and I paid good money for this. This palette cost $18 with extra international and domestic shipping for me) I have to make it work.

Here's my FOTD using Stila Can Cam Palette with a step-by-step following the information from the back of the palette. Well, not so much, but pretty close.

  1. After primer (I'm using UDPP) apply the base color all over the lid, all the way to the browbone area.
  2. Apply crease color on the crease.
  3. Apply liner color on the outer lid, as outer V.
  4. Once again, apply base color. This time apply the color wet, concentrating on the lid. The texture is kinda sticky, so never forget to blend.
  5. Line lower lash line with liner color.
  6. Add eye liner and mascara. Fake lashes for more dramatic effect.
And... Voila! Anyway, can't you tell that this is my first time wearing fake lashes myself? I'm such a rookie, the inner part of the lashes don't stick very well to my lash line. Haha..

And here's the rest of the face. This is how the cheeks color from the palette appears on my cheeks. Can you see?

Mineral Makeup Haul

So my mineral package from Creamymilk finally arrived today. Tadaa... Well, not much, actually.

What I got:
Joppa Full Coverage Foundation in Medium #3
Everyday Mineral Semi Matte Base in Medium Tan
Everyday Mineral Color Corrector in Sunlight
Everyday Mineral Concealer Intensive Tan in sample size
Everyday Mineral Blush Game Show in sample size
Everyday Mineral Flat Top Brush

Here are some swatches, hope this will help. I got my Everyday Mineral base in Medium Tone, which is golden undertone base. As for Joppa, Medium #3 has more olive undertone to it. Here's the picture of two of them, side by side. Since Medium Tan is the second darkest shade in golden area, it appears a little orange on my skin, kinda like brick color (?) and it slightly darker than my real shade *sigh* As for Joppa, I haven't tried it. Although, judging from the color, I think it'll match me better.

As for concealer and corrector area, I got Intensive Tan concealer that is a concealer for medium to dark complexion. And Sunlight corrector, mainly because everybody raved about how great it is on concealing dark under eye area. Well, for someone with super dark under eye like me, I should give it a try, no?

Here's the what Intensive Tan looks like. I took this picture with flash and it looks kinda close to the real color. I tried, but I couldn't capture Sunlight corrector's real color. But you can still see it from picture above.

Last one is Game Show blush. Game Show fall under matte category. It's dark mauve color and super pigmented.

My Online Shopping Experiences

Honestly, I can't remember when was my first online shopping transaction. I believe it was a few months ago. All I know is, once I got introduced into brands like Stila, NARS, Cargo and all that stuff that are unavailable in my own country, online shopping is my solution. And I've been doing it until now. Luckily, I've never had any bad experience. The only bad experience I've had is being called "Sis" all the time. I hate that. And who started it, by the way?

Anyway, here are some so-called reviews on some online stores I've made transactions with. Yeah, not so much reviews. Just sharing my experiences and hope this post will help you on deciding where are you going to shop.

***

FTL's Wardrobe
FTL's Wardrobe is my very first online shopping experience. I bought Stila single shadow 'Kitten' here. Febe and Lia are the two nice ladies who run the store. I love how they give such fast responses on my answers and everything. I was inexperienced and a little worried on things like, 'what if they cheated on me?' and all that. But I received my order safe and sound. Plus a lipgloss as a bonus.

Anyway, after some times finding more online stores out there, I realized that FTL's prices are kinda pricey compare to other stores. I believe they have their reasons. But this cheapskate girl chose to shop in other stores. I still regularly check out their site, though. They used to have a lot of ready stock makeup, but it's more about Pre-order now. And the products are mostly shoes and bags, hence the name Wardrobe.

Pinkymiki
I bumped in to this store few months ago. Not much customers back then and I think the store was just getting started. Lara is the owner of this store. I ordered my NARS powder blush Torrid here. She didn't have a lot testimonials back then, but still I ordered my NARS because she had some blushes ready stock (In case you're wondering, yes, I am that impulsive *grin*). Torrid wasn't ready in stock so Lara told me to leave her my number. And days later, she contacted me to tell me that my order has arrived.

I mentioned in my entry before that I got my Torrid with free shipping. She delivered the blush herself because my place is near hers. And that was my bonus. Although some testimonials did mention that she inserts some bonus. Lara also answers your questions early so you don't have to wait for days for your question to be answered. I once posted a question in her online store and she replied me via my cell phone.

So I think her store is worth checking out. Pinkymiki sells various brands like Stila, Urban Decay, Napoleon Perdis, Too Faced, NYX, and all. They're ready stock and updated from time to time. Great option for you if you hate waiting.

Le Seizieme
You can find some NYX and MAC here. I don't really check this website regularly. Mainly because everytime I come here, nothing's change and no updates from time to time.

I ordered Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner here. Fast response. Might get earlier response if you ask question or order stuff through text message instead of leaving comment on the web. And I received my order the day after I made the payment. So, great service, I think. But not many options on the web.

Love To Make Up
Well, I don't actually order from Multiply. The lady who owns this online store is a member of FashioneseDaily Forum and she opens a "store" in the forum too. She provides some ready stock make up and brushes. But it's mostly pre-order. I got my MAC Face and Body from this store and currently waiting for Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow Box from the previous Sephora Friend and Family Sale.

Since she opens some pre-orders at once, some might get kinda anxious of waiting. But for desperate people like me, I choose to order here even if I have to wait for weeks.

Creamymilk
What I love about this online store is, Sheylla, the owner, opens pre-order for mineral make up regularly. She's a mmu-hunter, that I believe. And since she has quite experiences with mineral make up, she could help you if you're kinda new to this kind of make up.

Sheylla responses to your questions in no time and answers your questions, not just about order and shipment, but also helps you find your shades or which formula suits your skin type and things like that.

Other than mineral make up pre-order and ready stock, you'll also find brands such as Cargo, Benefit, Drugstore brands, etc. And there are auctions open regularly here. That way, you can get products you want with lower prices.

***

So there you go, my online shopping experiences. Just remember, you need 'trust' for this kind of shopping. Make sure to be careful before doing any transactions. Read some testimonials about the store first, if any. And once you've decided to buy stuff, pay immediately. That way, not only you can trust the sellers, but the sellers will trust you too.

Good luck and happy shopping!

A Visit to My Dermatologist

So I paid my dermatologist a visit today. Honestly, I don't usually meet her. Everytime I come to her practice, it's only because I need to restock my skincare. But with my skin behaving really bad lately, I figured I have to see her for consultation.

I've been one of my dermatologist's patients for almost a year now. My skin type is combination with oily T-zone and is very sensitive too. So basically, the main goal of my treatment is to make my skin much less oily. Therefore, besides my skincare routine, my dermatologist also told me to stay away from products such as moisturizer, cream products (foundation, blush, etc) and pressed powder, anything that contains oil. Well, judging from my previous posts, you can tell that I do wear all those forbidden products. I stopped wearing them only on first few months of my treatment. In my defense, my Stila convertible color and MAC studio fix never cause any bad reactions on me, so I believe they're innocent.

I've never had any skin-related problem for almost a year, until now. I always stick to my skincare routine so I believe my current problem has nothing to do with my skincare. But still, I couldn't find the culprit. Until my dermatologist started to ask me,

My dermatologist: What happened? Have you been wearing moisturizer lately?
Me: Uhmm.. No, doc.

Okay, I lied. I got this Clinique moisturizer sample and I started to wear it as my first step of my morning routine, before I put on my sunblock and the rest of my make up. So.. I guess I found culprit #1.

My dermatologist: How bout pressed powder?
Me: Oh.. It's not allowed?
My dermatologist: Of course not. I wrote it on the note that I gave you. Pressed powder is loose powder pressed with oils. You can't wear that.

Yes, I was playing a fool. I know I'm not supposed to wear pressed powder. But my MAC Studio Fix used to be my one and only powder. Thanks God I got my NARS loose powder now. I sold my MAC Studio Fix few days ago. But I still believe studio fix has nothing to do with my break out.

So my conclusion, I think it's moisturizer and probably my sunblock that cause me break out. Since sunblock tends to be very oily. So I must stop wearing moisturizer and find another sunblock that is less oily.

In the end, my dermatologist gave me two products for me to wear. Each for day and night. I got Medi-klin for me to wear in the morning. It's an antibiotic solution for topical use. I suppose to dot it on my acne. And for night wear, I got Isotrex, that is gel that contains Isotretionin (a substance physically and pharmacologically similar to vitamin A) for topical use. The infamous pil, Roaccutane also contains Isotretionin. My dermatologist also recommend it to me.

I'm still allowed to wear loose powder daily. But I don't think I'll wear make up for now. At least until my skin shows some progress. Which means, no FOTD for now. And once my skin gets all better, I'm switching to mineral make up.

I can't really remember the last time I had a break out experience like this. I hate this. It looks ugly, plus, it hurts! So annoying. This skincare better works for me. Holiday is coming soon and I don't think an acne-covered face is an idea for holiday gift *crossing fingers*.

Another Fashionesedaily Event

Yup, another contest from Fashionesedaily. Well, not so much a contest actually. More like a survey and first 100 responders are invited to this event. Oh, I love this forum so much!

Yes girls, this is another contest for you….

PT. Pulau Mahoni and Fashionese Daily would like to invite 100 FDers to attend the beauty workshop/consultation session and free make over by your favorite brands (Clinique, MAC and Estee Lauder) on Saturday, 31st October, 2009 at Main Atrium Plaza Senayan.

Each participant will also get a Rp. 550,000,- worth beauty package consisting products from Clinique, MAC, Estee Lauder and Sean John Perfume.

So I went to Plaza Senayan today. The dress code is black. I don't have a lot of black outfit, to be honest. And I hate wearing all black from head to toe. To me, it feels like attending a funeral. So, anyway, I put on my black top and black-and-white skirt. Too bad I forgot to take picture. Oh well..

There were three counters where we can get make over: Estee Lauder, MAC and Clinique. And FD crews already put my name to get make over at Estee Lauder counter, randomly. I was kinda hoping I can get make over at MAC and thinking about asking to switch counter. But, on second thought, I'll just give Estee Lauder a try. So here's my FOTD. Products used? Don't ask. I didn't really pay attention. Haha..

Okay, a quick take. The foundation and powder don't really cover my complexion. You can still see my zits and dark spots all over (My skin has been acting up real bad lately. Hate that). And after spending few hours at the mall, my face started to get oily. Meh.

I love the EOTD. Especially the highlight color looks pretty, me likey. A my eyebrows are the best part. I wish I could do my eyebrows like that. It's too bad the lady who gave me the make over didn't put any concealer under my eyes. Since I have very dark under eye area, I will never put on dark color on my eyes without any concealer on my under eye because it'll make me look like a panda.

Blush and lipstick are just fine. I'm not really interested with those. Although I love the fact that the pink blush could really appear on my cheeks. Usually pink is not really my color. It'll automatically turns peachy because of my warm undertone. But this one stays pink on my cheeks and quite pigmented too, I must say. As for the lipstick. The lady who gave me my makeover told me that this lipstick has moisturizer in it. Well, I still feel a little dry although it's still acceptable. Oh, and it lasts through my meal and everything. Not bad.

And of course, the most fun part: Goody bag!

I got samples of Estee Lauder skincare and inside the pouch there are samples of MAC Cleanse Off Oil, Prep+Prime Base Skin Visage, Clinique Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss, Turnaround Concentrate (have no idea what it is) and Estee Lauder and DKNY perfumes. The DKNY one is for men, so I gave it to my boyfriend.

And I dropped by at Ratu Plaza to meet my boyfriend there. Went to Outback for snack time. We got cheesy french fries and my favorite dessert in Outback, Chocolate Thunder from Down Under.. Yuuummm...

Anyway, I lowered the resolutions of my pictures. Boy, how those pictures look ugly now.

My NYX Prize

So my NYX prize is here. Well, actually, I went to NYX Studio at Plaza EX to take it. I haven't tried any of it, so I just post pictures here. The set comes in a little transparent clutch and inside I got:

NYX single e/s 'Frosty Lilac'
NYX round lipstick 'Pandora'
NYX sheer gloss 'Bronze'
NYX lip liner pencil 'Auburn'

Frosty Lilac is a sheer light purple color and yes, frosty. I don't know if this color will ever show up on my dark lids. Maybe I'll need like a colored base. Jumbo eye pencil, maybe? Okay, that's just an excuse to shop.. haha.

Pandora, again a pinkish purple color. I never have this color before. Gotta try it soon and hope it looks good on me.

The sheer lips gloss, I haven't opened it yet. But just take a quick look an the packaging. Kinda weird, though. Reminds me of that ointment for sore muscle I usually use.. LOL. Wonder how to apply it. With a brush, maybe?

Last one, the lip pencil. Well, this is the only thing that I've tried. It's in the name, Auburn. Kinda like a brownish red.

And my FOTD for today.

October Haul and Pre New Year Resolution

With the arrival of my stilas, it's official that all of my PO stuff are here. *Yayy!!* So here's this month's haul.

  • Makeup Forever HD Foundation shade '128 - Almond'
  • Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer shade '01'
  • MAC Face and Body Foundation shade 'C4'
  • NARS Loose Powder 'Beach'
  • Stila Lip Glaze Collection
  • Sariayu Eyeshadow 'Reog'
  • Sariayu Eyeshadow 'Merak Kasmaran'
Except for the Sariayu eyeshadows, which is local brand, I have to CPed all those products, like, halfway around the world. Simply because, I can't find those in my own country. Well, except for Makeup Forever but the shade that I ordered is Sephora exclusive and there's no Sephora here, so.. well.
Anyway, it's almost the end of 2009. And I made a promise to myself that:
  1. I will not buy anything makeup related until the end of this year.
  2. And I will make 2010 as The Year of Brush. I'll start collecting brushes.
I hope I can fulfill my promise. I mean it's only two more months to go right? Well, except that I snapped yesterday and ordered Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow Box. But that's it.. Oh, and Stila CanCam Palette. I can't help it since they're so pretty. I mean, look:

How could you not fall in love with them?? And Sephora is having Friend and Family Sale so I don't want to miss it.

But really, those palette are gonna be my last makeup-related purchase for this year. *crossing fingers*

Fashionesedaily NYX FOTD Contest

Long time no post. Phew.. First of all, I had a problem with any google-related site. I couldn't open my e-mail and even sign in into this blog. That's why, I can't post anything here. Anyway, I finally changed my browser. It used to be Mozilla and now it's Google Chrome. Since my knowledge around computer is total suck, I hope I won't find such problem anymore.

Anyway, a week ago Fashionesedaily and NYX held an FOTD Contest.

NYX and Fashionese Daily would like to invite our forum members to post their best FOTD picture and win lots of goodies from NYX! Here are the rules:

Come on girls, show us your perfectly blended makeup and win the prizes!

Honestly, I didn't have a lot of NYX in my traincase and I don't think one chrome eyeshadow could help in this contest. So I did visit NYX counter and purchase some.

And my FOTD that I submit.
Makeup theme: Rusty Java.
Not the best theme, I know. But I couldn't find other name, so I went with the name of the eyeshadows I used.

Nothing special with the colors, I know. So I added double winged eyeliner. I saw that kind of winged eyeliner, like, years ago, in InStyle magazine, if I'm not mistaken. I could only submit one picture. So the picture above is the one that I submitted. And here's the detail on the eyes.

Products used:

FOTD
NYX Liquid Makeup 'Medium Beige'

[Tutorial] Lime Eyes

Okay, this isn't a regular tutorial. I usually have problem with uploading videos to youtube. Got kinda sick of it, honestly (I blame my internet connection!). So this time, I'll just post pictures.

EOTD
  • Revlon Marble-ous Match Eyeshadow Duo - Made for Jade
  • NYX Chrome Eyeshadow - Lagoon
  • PAC Eyeshdaow Quad - Rainbow Chic
  • inez Eyeshadow Quad - Venice
  • Maybelline Eyestudio - Venice Carnaval
  • La Tulipe Eyeshadow quad no.14
  • Stila Kajal Liner in Onyx
  • Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus

  1. Apply nude color from Revlon Made for Jade all over lid. In my case, since I have pigmented lids, eyeshadow colors tend to change on my skin. So this nude color just as a 'base' to help the real color from the eyeshadow appear.
  2. Apply NYX Lagoon (teal color) on inner half of the lid.
  3. Apply yellow color form Rainbow Chic quad on outer half of the lid. So the the teal and yellow colors will meet in the middle.
  4. Apply brown color from Venice quad on the crease.
  5. Apply black color from Venice Carnival quad as outer V. Blend to eliminate harsh lines.
  6. Use ivory color from Venice quad as highlight all over brow bone and in the inner corner of the eyes.
  7. Again, take yellow color and apply it in the inner third of lower lash line.
  8. For the rest of lower lash line, apply purple color from La Tulipe quad no.14

After you're done with eyeshadow, apply eyeliner along the upper lash line and outer third of lower lash line.

And the result:

FOTD
  • MUFE HD Foundation #128
  • Revlon Colorstay Concealer - Medium
  • Revlon Microfine Natural Loose Powder - Medium

COTD
  • Stila Convertible Color - Peony
  • PAC Shimmering Powder

LOTD
  • Stila Convertible Color - Peony
  • Revlon Glossylicious Lipgloss

Travel in Stila Style

A Stila girl never takes a vacation from beauty. So True!

I just got this from Fashionesedaily's Beauty Warehouse. This is actually an old set. If I'm not mistaken, this set was out on January 2009. Originally, Travel in Stila Style contains:
Multi-effect Mascara - black
Convertible Color - Peony
Lip Glaze - Brown Sugar
Kajal Eye Liner - Onyx
Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 - Shade 01
Stila Sun SPF 15 Bronzing Powder - Shade 01

I bought this set from another forum member, minus the mascara and the tinted moisturizer. But it doesn't matter because everything inside are all brand new.

Stila Sun SPF 15 Bronzing Powder
To be honest, I am a bronzer rookie and this Stila bronzer is actually my first bronzer ever. So I think this is the right time to start learning and wearing bronzer. Anyway, since I don't know what we're looking for from a bronzer, so I don't think I'm gonna review this.

Convertible Color Peony
This is my second convertible color. I've been in love with convertible color since I got my gerbera. Before I got this set, I searched for peony's swatch and found out that the color is kinda brown. I wasn't really excited about it But when I tried it myself, the color actually looks plum-ish on my cheeks. It's very sheer and yet you can tell that you're blushing. Looks so natural on my cheeks, and I love it so much! It looks even better on my lips. It's a natural healthy lip color. It looks just.. fit! I love this!

Convertible Color Peony on NC37-40 and pigmented lips

Lip Glaze - Brown Sugar
Again, my first. I've never tried any lip glazes before. Some review said that this lip glaze feels kinda sticky. But when I tried it, I love the texture so very much. I mean, yes it's sticky. But it's lip gloss, of course it's sticky. But not in an annoying way. And it's very pigmented too for a gloss. As for the color, Brown Sugar, it's actually dark plum color with gold shimmer. Too dark for me although it's still wearable when applied really sheer. Not really my favorite. But I'll definitely start collecting other colors. I love this lip glaze!

Stila Lip Glaze in Brown Sugar

Kajal Eye Liner - Onyx
When I first take a look on the color, I was amazed on how dark the color is. Seriously, even before I applied it, I can tell that this eyeliner is so very black. And when I applied, again, I was amazed with the texture. It's so soft. I don't even need to tug my skin and press the pencil, the eyeliner glides easily on my skin. Until I went out of my house with this liner on my eyes. I learned, once you applied this eyeliner, hands off eyes. It won't set on your skin, it stays creamy and therefore, it smudges like crazy. I feel like I hate this eyeliner so much!

Pardon me, that this is my first experience with kajal liner. I searched on fashionesedaily about eyeliner and found out that that's kajal. It's soft, so very dark, smudges and not waterproof. That's just the way it is. So I gotta find a way to wear this eyeliner. Right now, I wear this eyeliner by smudging it. Dot tiny amounts of Kajal liner on your lash line, and smudge it with your flat eye brush. I'm sorry, I'm so in love with the dark black that I have to compromise with this liner. I think I'm gonna repurchase!

Neutral Pink

Okay, I have no idea what to name this FOTD. It's been a while since my last FOTD, I guess. I was having a family gathering last weekend and looking for not-so-over-the-top look. So I picked pink color for the 'theme' and neutral brownish colors on my eyes to avoid that boring monochromatic look.

FOTD
  • Smashbox Photo Finish
  • Mac Studio Fix Fluid in NC37
  • Fyrinnae Powder Primer
  • MAC Studio Fix in NC40
  • NARS Super Orgasm
  • Guerlain Meteorites Illuminating Pressed Powder in Rose Frais
By the way, I forgot to put on my concealer. I was at my grandma's house that weekend. It was awfully hot and by the end of the night, my undereye area looked horrible. It appeared darker that it actually is. Seriously, I'll never forget my concealer ever again!

Another stupid thing I did, I left my Talika eyelash curler in my apartment. I didn't curl my lashes.. so why even bother applying mascara on my super straight lashes?!

But on the other side, the rest of my face stayed flawless and oil free, thanks to my new found love, Fyrinnae Powder Primer. Keeps oils away and my makeup stayed matte for the rest of the night. Yippie!

Holiday Haul

So here's my holiday haul. I went to Sephora at Champs-Élysées, Paris. It's the largest Sephora and has the most complete makeup brands. Unlike Sephora in Italy or Spain, Sephora in Paris has Stila, Smashbox, Urban Decay, NARS and even MAC and Bobbi Brown (You can't find the last two at Sephora Lafayette). While regular brands you'll find in every Sephoras are Too Faced, Benefit, Sephora brands (of course) and some high end brands.

Anyway, I entered Sephora, hoping I could haul as much as I want only to found out how expensive makeups in Europe are. I walked in to NARS section and saw NARS powder blush for 29euro (couldn't find euro sign in my keyboard, d'oh!)!! And Stila Convertible Color for 23euro, Smashbox Photo Finish for 39euro. I could go on and on but the point is, they're so expensive. But I still bought some, mostly Benefit. And if you see high end brands such as Lancome and Dior, I bought it on discount price or Duty Free. And even the after-discount price equals normal price if I convert it to Rupiah!
